OPAL LAVERA PENTON BRELAND, AGE 81 and a resident of Franklinton died Saturday morning August 5, 2017 at Riverside Medical Center. She was born November 13, 1935 in Picayune, MS but had been a longtime resident of Washington Parish. She was an active member of Hillcrest Baptist Church where she served on several committees, such as Vacation Bible School, Wednesday night meal crew, and Chairwoman of the Bereavement Committee. For several years she directed the Help Center of Churches, assisting many of those in need in our community. She was also a member and past officer of the Franklinton Garden Club and an active member of Mile Branch Settlement of the Washington Parish Free Fair since its beginning. Opal was retired as an LPN with Riverside Medical Center after 15 years of service. In her church, clubs and community services, she made many lifelong, wonderful friends that she cherished.
She was a very caring person for anyone that needed a helping hand, freely giving of her love and time, known as Mrs. Opal by just about everyone in the area. She was truly an inspiration to her family, friends and all who knew her. She was an example of what a true caring, selfless, generous person should be. Opal loved God, family, friends and her community. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her, especially her loving family.

Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home Monday August 7th from 10 am until 2 pm. A funeral service will be held at 2 pm Monday in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Gene Richards and Rev. Tom Descant officiating with music by Randy Crain. She will be carried to her final resting place on Earth by her son and grandsons in the Breland Family Cemetery in Pine.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial donations to the Help Center of Churches, someone in need or a charity of your choice as this was her mission in life, caring and helping others. An angel on Earth and a true servant of God.
The family would like to thank everyone for the calls, visits, prayers, flowers, food, love and all the support during this very difficult time. You don’t know how much we appreciate each of you.
