STPSO's Highway Enforcement Unit is Productive

Members of the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s new Highway Enforcement Unit have had a productive June so far. Some noteworthy incidents include:
  • June 9: A traffic stop on a rental car resulted in the arrest of Derek James (24) of Tacoma, Washington as a fugitive from Washington State for escaping custody on a robbery charge.
  • June 12: A traffic stop resulted in the arrest of Skippy Myers (36) of Lafayette as a fugitive out of St. Landry Parish and on two active warrants through St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office for Failure to Appear on original charges of Possession Schedule II, Possession Schedule III, DWI and Driving Under Suspension.
  • June 19: A traffic stop resulted in the seizure of 24 one-pint bottles of prescription-type Promethazine Hydrochloride syrup and 50 pounds of marijuana. Kevin Dewayne Denson of San Antonio, Texas, was charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule II; Possession of a Legend Drug Without a Prescription and Improper Lane Use.
St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Randy Smith says, “In a short time, our Highway Enforcement Unit has been very successful in making several proactive arrests and reducing the availability of dangerous drugs being dispersed in St. Tammany Parish."
