Franklinton Police Chief Releases June Stats

Franklinton Police Chief Olander Smith provided his department's stats at the Franklinton Board of Aldermen meeting on June 27, 2017. Information provided is actually inclusive of May 22 to June 27 of 2017. The report reflected a total of 881 Calls for Service, divided into the headings of Public Assistance, Traffic, and Criminal Patrol.
Responses for Public Assistance included general complaints (374), extra patrols (67), medical calls (34), alarms (49), and suspicious persons or vehicles (37).
Traffic activity included traffic stops (61), vehicle crashes (25), hit and runs (3), reckless operation (15), DWI (2), and citations (69).
Criminal Patrol responses included disturbances (35), fights (2), simple battery (4), criminal damage to property (1), burglaries (2), theft and shoplifting (14), narcotics (2). Officers made 37 total arrests.
Chief Smith also reported that, during the reporting period,
  • he has made a special effort to visit with young children,
  • the Investigation Division has and is working a fraudulent check cashing ring,
  • Sgt. Eckert was recognized as the Franklinton Rotary Club police Officer of the year,
  • Officers have assisted Bogalusa Police Department with DWI checkpoints, and
  • Officer John Herring is in school to become a POST certified School Resource Officer

Chief Smith reminded everyone to be safe for the 4th of July celebrations.
