Obituary

Dr. Eunice Hall Magee
January 27, 1922 - May 28, 2017

DR. EUNICE HALL MAGEE, age 95, went to be with her husband, Von Magee, and the Lord, on May 28, 2017 in Mandeville, LA. Her loving children and grandchildren were with her as she left.
Eunice was born on January 27, 1922 at Crossroads, MS to her parents, Purvis Melvin Hall, Sr. and Mattie Ainsworth Hall. She had six siblings all but one of who preceded her in death. Christine Hall Ford (Shorty), Purvis Melvin Hall, Jr. (Elaine), Thomas Lee "Tommy" Hall (Ruth); Earnest Hall (Dixie), Lowell Edwin "Ed" Hall (Colleen), and Ellen Hall Barker (Charles).
Eunice married Von W. Magee in 1942 at Poplarville, MS. They settled in Bogalusa, LA and lived there until 2004 when she moved to Abita Springs, LA. At the time of her death she was residing at Heritage Manor in Mandeville. Of her marriage two children were born, Von Hall Magee and William M. (Bill) Magee (Karen).
She leaves seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Grandchildren are Keli Magee Carnovale (Vincent), Von Allen Magee, Scott Hunt (Philomena), Jonathan Marshall Magee, Katherine Jean "Katie" Magee, Rebecca Ann "Becca" Magee, and William Alexander "Alex" Magee. Great grandchildren are Sophia Carnovale and Eli Carnovale. She also leaves numerous nieces and nephews who she loved, adored and influenced.
Eunice loved education and was the first member of her family to go to college. She attended Pearl River Junior College in Poplarville and then Southeastern Louisiana University where she obtained her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. She taught third grade in the Bogalusa School System for 15 years. During that time, she obtained her Masters Degree in Elementary Education at Southern Mississippi and then her Ph.D. in Elementary Education at Southern Mississippi. Upon receiving her Ph.D., she began teaching at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond for another 15 years. She retired from teaching in 1980. During her time at SLU, she trained hundreds of local schoolteachers and was a supervisor of student teachers in Washington and St. Tammany Parishes. She was a leader in the Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society for teachers. She was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Bogalusa and saw to it that her boys were given her Christian spiritual heritage. Eunice and Von were both members of what Tom Brokaw wrote about as the "Greatest Generation" and they were living examples of why they deserved to be members of this group. Eunice had a love for her family and the Lord. She was a loving and selfless mother, wife and friend. She never met a stranger and always saw the best in everyone. After retirement, she spent most of her time continuing to provide love, support and care for her children and grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Thursday, June 1, 2017, at the First Baptist Church of Bogalusa located at 541 Avenue F, Bogalusa, La. 70427 from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm., with a life celebration at the church at 5:00pm and reception to follow in the Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the First Baptist Church of Bogalusa in memory of Eunice Magee.
