Obituary

Rev. Gene F. Simpkins
October 19, 1935 - March 27, 2017

REV. GENE F. SIMPKINS, AGE 81 and a resident of Mt. Hermon passed away at 8:10 pm Monday March 27, 2017 at his home. He was a servant of the Lord and preacher for the United Pentecostal Church International for nearly 62 years. Gene attended the Apostolic Bible Institute in St. Paul, MN and began his church pastoring in Newellton in 1958 before moving to churches in Farmerville and Holden. He began serving in Washington Parish in 1967 at the Mt. Hermon UPC, where he pastored for 15 years. He helped to build and then pastor the Bogalusa United Faith Church for over 17 years and later pastored in Independence for 5 years before retiring. During his ministry, Bro. Gene served as the Presbyter of the UPCI Louisiana district section 1 for 29 years. He adored his wife and loved spending time with his family.
Survived by: Wife of 59 years: Pattyce Donaldson Simpkins of Mt. Hermon; Son and Daughter in law: Randall Gene and Dena Simpkins of Walker; 2 Daughters and Sons in law: Wanda and Jerry Morgan of Harrison, AR, Suzonne and Rev. Randall Garcia of Mt. Hermon; 7 Grandchildren and Spouses: Ryan Simpkins, Tara Simpkins, Kristi and Jason Bledsoe, Kandi and Ty Rowland, Amanda and Todd Boyd, Jessica and Brian Goings, Pattyce and Cody Hughes; 8 Great-grandchildren: Jayden, Kyleigh, Austin, Landon, Brynlee, Tucker, Raylee Gene, Lucy; Brother: Aubrey Simpkins of West Monroe; Sister and Brother in law: Gladys and Eddie Joe Frazier of West Monroe; 2 Sisters in law and a Brother in law: Gloria and Rev. J.E. Burgess, Robbie Alford
He was preceded in death by his parents T.O. Simpkins and Eva Spiller Simpkins, his father in law and mother in law S.T. and Freda Donaldson, and sisters in law Sandy Simpkins, Terralyn Donaldson and Ann Donaldson.
Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home (1109 Bene Street, Franklinton) from 5 pm until 9 pm Thursday March 30th. Visitation will continue at Mt. Zion Pentecostal Church (18018 Lee Road, Franklinton) on Friday from 9 am until 11 am. A funeral service will be held in the church at 11 am Friday with Rev. T.F. Tenney, Rev. Randall Garcia, Rev. Leon Hickman, Rev. W.L. Tullos, Rev. Kevin Cox and Rev. Billy Trusley officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Hermon Pentecostal Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers are his 6 grandsons Ryan Simpkins, Todd Boyd, Brian Goings, Cody Hughes, Ty Rowland, Jason Bledsoe
Honorary Pallbearers are his great-grandsons Austin Boyd, Landon Boyd, Tucker Goings
