Pearl River Man Pleads Guilty to Shooting Former Girlfriend

Ronald A. Brown (58), formerly of Pearl River, pleaded guilty Monday (February 13) to attempted first degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon for shooting his girlfriend in 2015. District Judge Raymond S. Childress sentenced Brown to 25 years in prison for the attempted murder and 10 years on the firearm charge, with both sentences to be served at the same time.
On April 27, 2015 the victim arrived home and found Brown hiding inside her kitchen. The two struggled, the victim got to her vehicle, and Brown shot her in the head as she tried to get away. The victim drove herself to the Louisiana Heart Hospital in Lacombe. The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested Brown shortly afterward.
Five years earlier, Brown had pleaded guilty to attempted second degree kidnapping for holding a knife to a different victim’s neck and preventing her from leaving for three hours. In that case, he was given a five-year sentence with all but 18 months of it suspended, and five years of probation.
