When $6,300 and narcotics
were discovered missing from the evidence room of the Causeway Police
Department, Chief Congemi asked Sheriff Randy Smith to investigate. The
investigation led investigators to the evidence officer, Sergeant William Jones
Jr., who ultimately confessed to the theft. His confession was recorded and
Jones' employment was terminated and he was booked into the St. Tammany Parish
Jail.
