Two New Orleans Men Tries to Outrun STPSO Deputies

Yesterday (November 17), St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Deputies attempted a traffic stop on a stolen Kia on Highway 11 but the vehicle sped off and was pursued.  The short pursuit ended when the vehicle crashed into another vehicle and a tree near Eden Isles and flipped before catching fire.  Deputies put the fire out using a fire extinguisher.
One of the occupants was quickly taken into custody and the second person tried to elude capture by jumping into the bayou, After being informed about alligators in the bayou, the second person swam to shore and was taken into custody.
Gerald Smith (20)  and Tyrin Hamilton (19), both of New Orleans, were arrested for Illegal Possession of Stolen Things, Resisting an Officer, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and Aggravated Flight from and Officer.
