Michael Fagan (58) of
Slidell, pleaded guilty to 38 counts of pornography involving juveniles Tuesday
(November 18), just as his trial on the charges was set to begin. District Judge
Allison Penzato sentenced Fagan to 20 years in prison without the benefit of
parole, probation, or suspension of sentence on each of the charges, but the
sentences are to be served concurrently. Upon his release, Fagan also will be
required to register as a sex offender.
Fagan was arrested in
August, 2015, during an undercover investigation by the Louisiana Attorney
General’s Cyber Crimes unit. An investigator was looking into online child
pornography when he received an alert that implicated Fagan. Officers seized
electronic devices at Fagan’s Slidell residence, conducted a forensic
investigation on the scene and discovered dozens of images of child
pornography.
Before trial, Fagan
initially rejected a plea offer that would have given him 15 years in
prison.
